The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show 2024 brought the automotive aftermarket community together once again at the iconic Las Vegas Convention Center. Representing JIS Auto, Travis Mundy (Director of Ecommerce) and Brent Atkins (President) embraced the opportunity to connect with key players in the industry, including warehouse distributors, thought leaders, and long-time vendor partners.
Why SEMA Matters
As an industry thought leader, I can confidently say that attending SEMA isn’t just about discovering the next groundbreaking product (although that’s a perk). It’s about fostering relationships and reaffirming our commitment to the automotive aftermarket. While the show was buzzing with energy and very well attended, the real value lies in the connections we strengthen and the conversations we have.
Vendors, often on their feet for most of the show, genuinely appreciate the concerted effort when dealers take the time to visit their booth. This simple gesture demonstrates that we care about their brand's success and are invested in the growth and future of the industry.
Key Meetings at SEMA
Our team dedicated much of our time to engaging with the key warehouse distributors in the industry. Highlights included some very productive discussions with:
- Meyer Distributing
- Keystone Automotive Operations
- Turn 14 Distribution
- Motorstate Distributing
A Deeper Dive with Motorstate
Our meeting with Doug Lane, owner of Motorstate and a SEMA board member, was particularly enlightening. Doug shared invaluable insights into the current headwinds and distribution dynamics shaping the automotive aftermarket. His perspective, rooted in years of experience, shed light on the emerging trends and challenges.
We also caught up with Darren Lane, Doug’s son and a rising star in the industry. Having known Darren for nearly 15 years, it is always good to see his continued development and growth and his continued impact on the performance and aftermarket parts segment.
The Main Takeaway
SEMA 2024 reaffirmed a crucial lesson: staying connected matters. Relationships are King. Whether it’s catching up with familiar faces, meeting new contacts, or gaining industry insights, this event serves as a cornerstone for relationship-building and strategic alignment in the automotive aftermarket.
We’re proud to be part of such a dynamic and forward-thinking industry, and we’re already looking forward to what SEMA 2025 will bring!
